HIGHPOWER THOUGHTS on ...  POWER!

Be strong with the Lord's mighty power   (Ephesians 6:10).

"It's all about power!"  That line, or something close to it, was uttered by one of the engineer's working on the Apollo 13 disaster.  He realized that that little flying ship the astronauts were in, would need power to re-ignite their fuel cells on re-entry.  And they only had so much of it, and when it was all used up, it was totally gone.  So the team at NASA quickly instructed the astronauts' leader, represented by Tom Hanks in the movie, to shut down all unnecessary operations in an attempt to conserve power.

In the Christian life it is also about power.  The Bible commands us to "Be strong in the Lord's mighty power".  This immediately tells us two things: First, it is possible to be weak as a Christian.  Maybe you know that, maybe you don't. But it is very possible to be a Christian, and yet at the same time to be living a weak, defeated, helpless, hopeless, hapless existence; we can hardly call it life.  And this need not be!  Because the second thing this command tells us about the Christian life is that the source of power is found in the Lord, who is "mighty in power".

If you need power, He has it for you.

How do we need power as Christian?  Power to resist temptation, for one.  Power to show love, when we feel unloving. Power to experience joy.  Power to make the right choices; say the right things; do the right things; think the right things. Power to practice gentleness, or firmness sometimes.  Power to go against the flow when everybody at the office is going the other way.

How do I need power? Let me count the ways!

BUT, there is one big difference between you and the astronauts in Apollo 13!  Your source of power is not limited; it is unlimited!  You do not have to conserve.  You have power to burn!  So go ahead and use that spiritual power everyday of the week, not just Sundays.  Put on that smile and joy in your heart for your family, not just for your co-workers.  You've got joy and love in the overflow through Jesus.

God gave you this command because He has given you the capacity and means to obey it:
Be strong with the Lord's mighty power (Ephesians 6:10).
