A Word from Bill

Pastoral Tenure is one of the major factors which will help your church to grow.

Take a look at the Factoids for this month. They introduce an important topic. While being at a church for a long time is no guarantee of making your church grow, it is a key factor. In a study of the top 20 largest churches in America, there was almost nothing in common between the churches except for one factor. For example, the churches represented different denominations, different worship styles, different theological persuasions, but every one of the churches had a pastor who had been there for at least 15 years.

Take a look at the resources we have for you, as it is our desire that your church be well fed and well led - by you, for a long time.

God bless,

~ Dr. Bill

CHURCH GROWTH FACTOIDS

CHURCH GROWTH FACTOIDS:

Take a look at these two Factoids:

Factoid #1: “Long pastoral tenure is not a panacea or the single answer to struggling churches across America, but I believe that long tenure is one of the key requisites for churches to move from mediocrity to goodness to greatness.- Thom Rainer, p.58 Source: (Tom Rainer. Breakout Churches. Grand Rapids: Zondervan, 2005)

Factoid #2: “At the time [2005] of the writing of this book, the average tenure was 21.6 years. That tenure is six times greater than the tenure of the typical American pastor. — Thom Rainer Source: (Thom Rainer. Breakout Churches. Grand Rapids: Zondervan, 2005.)

These and other Factoids can be found at ChurchGrowth Factoids

  • The Church Exit Interview -- “Speaking the truth in love” (Ephesians 4:15) is commanded of all Christians, but sometimes it is difficult to share “the final 10%”, as Bill Hybels says. Sometimes it is difficult to say what needs to be said. But an exit interview gives the opportunity, and the permission to a pastor to speak what can sometimes be the hard truth. Or, on the other hand, it can be a great time to affirm a church for the tremendous blessings of God upon it. Read more..

  • Why Pastor Left the Church -- On rare occasions, when a well-meaning Christian discovers that I prefer home churches to traditional denominational and am not affiliated with any particular group – although I’m asked to minister in many – it has happened that their “discovery” is met with the response, “I see. So, you’ve been hurt somewhere and need ministry.” Read more..
